Communication is the most slippery of topics in the autistic space. That is because we clearly would communicate differently if we could. So instead of our own communication, we end up needing to emulate the vagueness of a neuro-typical communication.
Where introverts may be disgusted and turned off at the idea of small talk, autistic people read that part of the conversation as literal as any of the rest of the conversation.
Autistic people always hear how good it is to be straight-forward and honest, only to get jammed up by neuro-typical people when we are honest with them.
Frankly, I hear so many autistic people talk about how they think in pictures, I think we will be the first to actually learn and use telepathic communication, whether it be natural, or with assistive technology.
